Components of fuel pump module assembly: fuel- resistant plastic body, sender unit, spring, float, fuel pump and strainer
The reservoir (part of the module) is located at the bottom of the fuel tank. When the fuel tank is cold, the module is in a contracted position. As the fuel heats up, the plastic tank will expand. The module will expand with the fuel tank, keeping the reservoir at the bottom of the tank at all times. The reservoir is continuously filled with fuel. This allows the vehicles to turn sharp corners or operate with little fuel. In fuel- injected vehicles, it is critical to keep pumping fuel to the injectors at all times. If the injectors go dry, it will create a vapor lock condition requiring the system to be pressurized.
